Gushan biodiesel production in Beijing shut down by Olympics as city clamps down on emissions prior to Games
As the Summer games of the 29th Olympiad in Beijing set to begin this week, biodiesel production in Beijing has shut down due to transport restrictions aimed to clear the city’s notorious pollution. Officials have adopted an odd-or-even restriction on private cars and trucks must meet increased emissions standards and only enter or leave the city at night. The restrictions have forced Gushan Environmental Energy to halt production at its 100,000 tonne biodiesel plant in Beijing. Company officials said that the plant will be closed until September. No other plants have reported shutdowns, although numerous factories have been closed around the Chinese capital as the Summer Games near.
