Today in Biofuels Opinion: “The Gang of 10’s proposal would significantly increase biofuel production and use”

Senator John Thune of South Dakota: “The Gang of 10’s proposal would significantly increase biofuel production and use by extending incentives for E-85 and blender pumps and creating new incentives for ethanol pipelines. It will also correct a problematic definition of renewable biomass, which was secretly added by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as part of the 2007 Energy bill. The new definition would allow for responsible production of cellulosic ethanol from wood waste from private forestlands and national forests, such as the Black Hills.”

From a statement by Renergie, the Florida-based biofuels development company:  “The Ethanol Import Tariff should be repealed….research shows that energy prices are quickly passed through to higher retail food prices, with retail prices rising 0.52 percent in the short-term for every 1 percent rise in energy prices. As a result, a 10 percent gain in energy prices could contribute 5.2 percent to retail food prices. “
