Truckers sue California ports to overturn new emission-reduction rules

californiaIn California, the American Trucking Association filed suit in federal district against the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, seeking to overturn a regulation that trucks must reduce nitrogen oxide emissions  by 45%, particulate matter by 47% and sulfur oxides by 52% in order to use port facilities after October 1st. The Association said that the requirement favors large fleets over independent truckers, although the association did not state why, since a switch to B99 biodiesel would accomplish the goal.

    1. Can someone update me on this? I seem to recall that testing done 15 years ago showed biodiesel sharply reduced particulates, other carbon based pollutants and presumably also sulfur oxides, but did not decrease or slightly increased NOx, so switching would not enable truckers to meet the NOx standard. Thanks.
