Today in Biofuels Opinion: “Criticisms based on ignorance of the difference between first and second-generation biofuels are not helpful in creating an investment environment”
Dr. Glenn Tong, CEO, Molecular Plant Breeding Co-operative Research Centre: “Much of the research into second-generation biofuels is still at the laboratory stage. Much investment is needed into this area before it can be applied on a wide scale. But criticisms based on ignorance of the difference between first and second-generation biofuels are not helpful in creating an investment environment conducive to developing what has every promise of being a viable fuel for the future.”
Peter Brown, Euro Marketing Tools: “REG just announced that they have developed technology to convert algae to biodiesel. All biodiesel plants should be able to convert algae to biodiesel, which is why nobody else is actually touting this incredible breakthrough. As long as the oil meets certain parameters it can be transesterified. The problem is in bursting the cell walls to generate the oil, and that has a lot of people looking right now, but again that is not insoluble.”
