Archer Daniels Midland, Deere, Monsanto form research partnership for crop residue-to-bioenergy conversion

In Illinois, Archer Daniels Midland, Deere & Company and Monsanto announced that they have formed a research collaborative for converting crop residues into feed and bioenergy products. The partnership will focus on conversion of corn stover — stalks, leaves and cobs — and will investigate methods for harvest, storage and transport of stover. Approximately 290 million tons of stover are expected to be generated this year in the US; stover is traditionally left on the field to prevent soil erosion and build up soil mass.
