Ag Secretary Schafer says strong Congressional leadership needed to unify energy policy

In Missouri, US Agriculture Secretary Ed Schaefer said at the Society of American Business Editors and Writers meeting that it would take strong congressional leadership to craft a national energy policy, noting the intensive debate in the Congress over energy options and measures. Schaefer said it was a mistake to blame ethanol for the high price of food and fuel, noting that studies show that ethanol has reduced the cost of gasoline by up to 35 cents per gallon.
