In Israel, Evogene, Ormat Industries and Leviev announced a joint venture for the production of castor beans in Namibia. Ormat and Evogene have jointly pursued the production of oil crops on marginal lands since last year. The joint venture will first identify the varietals that produce the strongest yields in Namibian soil; the company said it will either grow beans on its own lands, or may establish contracts with local farmers to sell seed and purchase crop, but it will not enter the biodiesel production business. Leviev will own 50 percent of the joint venture, Evogene 37.5 percent and Ormat 12.5 percent.
