Cleveland Cliffs to construct $15 million wood-waste facility to produce fuel cubes

In Minnesota, Cleveland-Cliffs announced that it would construct a $15 million plant on the Iron Range that would manufacture fuel cubes from switchgrass, crop residues and forest waste. The plant, the company said, would offset the coal use at its taconite plants in Silver Bay and Evelth. The company, which acquired Renewafuel last year and acquired the technology to produce fuel cubes, said that the cubes burn at 2300 degrees and are carbon neutral.
