Beatrice Biodiesel parent files for bankruptcy; 50 Mgy plant now controlled by AgStar Financial Services

In Nebraska, the parent company of the 50 Mgy Beatrice Biodiesel plant in Beatrice filed for Chapter 7 (liquidation) bankruptcy, handing control of the plant to AgStar Financial Services.  Agri Energy Limited, had shed assets in Australia in order to concentrate on a rescue plan for the Beatrice plant, but was unsuccessful in its efforts. The soybean oil-based plant had been announced as a project in 2006 and construction commenced last year. Contractors have filed more than $3.8 million in contractor’s liens for non-payment, including five bills over $400,000. The plant was completed in March but was not operated due to mounting financial pressures and rising feedstock costs.
