In Texas, devastation from Hurricane Ike touched the biofuels industry with the news that the GreenHunter biodiesel plant in Houston would be closed for up to eight weeks due to power and natural gas service interruptions.
The GreenHunter facility, with the largest nameplate capacity in the country at 105 Mgy, just last Friday had reached 65 percent of production capacity less than 60 days after the commencement of operations. The plant uses a combination of animal fats and vegetable oils as feedstock.
