Airgas to develop CO2 plant, capturing Georgia ethanol plant emissions as feedstock
In Georgia, Airgas announced that it would construct a 164,000 ton per year liquid carbon dioxide plant adjacent to the proposed First United Ethanol (FUEL) plant in Camilla. The companies entered into a 15-year agreement for FUEL to supply raw CO2 to Airgas. Airgas, the largest CO2 distributor in the Southern US, said that it would manufacture dry ice in addition to liquid CO2 for food, beverage and commercial use.
The Airgas plant is expected to open in 2009. The deal is one of the few for carbon capture at a fuel ethanol facility. EPCO has been active in signing with ten ethanol producers in the Midwest and Northeast, including United Ethanol in Milton, WI; Central Indiana Ethanol in Marion, IN, and Badger State in Monroe, WI.
