In Brazil, president Luis Inacio Lula da Silva will address United Nations and defend the Brazilian ethanol program. The government said that Lula will emphasize that biofuels should not be blamed for global food distribution inequities, and will recommit the country to biofuels despite the discovery of large offshore oil reserves. Lula has previously stated his view that poverty is the cause of the food crisis, rather than biofuels.
