Chernobyl recovery 20-40 years, down from centuries, using biofuel harvests; construction to being on 145 Mgy sugar beet ethanol plant in 20

In Belarus, the country’s deputy chief of mission to the UN in Geneva said that the government and its scientists have concluded that repeated harvesting of biomass as feedstock for fuel production is the best means of removing radioactive particles from the soils around Chernobyl and promote recovery of the region following the 1980s Chernobyl nuclear distaster. The government has said that construction would begin by 2010 on a 145 Mgy sugar beet ethanol complex, adding biodiesel and biogas in future phases.
