In Oregon, Columbia Energy Partners and Portland General Electric announced a pilot project to create algae using CO2 sequestered from PGE’s Boardman power plant. The project has taken two years from first contact to the establishment of the pilot; both companies said they would await the results of the initial production in six closed photobioreactor units before signing a long-term development agreement.
Columbia said that the project could use up to 60 percent of Boardman’s 5 million tons of coal-based CO2 emissions, and produce up to 20 Mgy of biodiesel.
