Italy’s Union of Biodiesel Producers launches Mambo project to produce algae biodiesel by 2013

In Italy, the Union of Biodiesel Producers announced its $14 million Mambo project to produce biodiesel from algae within five years. The group is working with scientists at the University of Florence, and will cultivate its feedstock in closed plastic bioreactors, fed with CO2 captured from thermal power stations. The group said that it expected to perfect its process design by 2010, and will construct a production facility in Southern Italy, and commence production of  algae based biodiesel by 2013.
