Biofuels Digest Index drops 6.25 percent to new low of 55.05 as credit fears spread

The Biofuels Digest Index™ (BDI), a basket of public biofuels stocks, fell 6.25 percent to close at 55.05 as ethanol and agribusiness stocks nosedived as credit crunch fears worsened.  For the day, Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) fell 12.56 percent to $18.72, while Aventine Renewable Energy (AVR) plunged 15.20 percent to close at $2.90. Among small caps, Gushan finished down 15.83 percent at $4.20. Overall, declines led advances 5 to 1 for the day.
