Researchers at Auburn University say they have developed techniques to harvest wild algae that forms a nuisance at catfish farms, and convert it to biofuels. Associate professor Ron Putt said that catfish farms should form the base of the Southeastern-based algae fuel industry, because the feedstock was already in place, calling it a win-win for catfish farmers and algae fuel producers.
