BioEnergy Development cancels 27 Mgy Indiana waste-to-ethanol project, cites local opposition

In Indiana, BioEnergy Development announced they they are scrapping plans to build an ethanol refinery in San Pierre. The company had run into significant local opposition to the plan, organized as “Kankakee Valley Stop the Ethanol Plant”, over environmental, groundwater, hazardous materials handling, noise, odor and traffic concerns. The local Board of Zoning Adjustment had issued a conditional use permit to the plant, prompting local action. The proposed 27  Mgy waste-to-ethanol project was projected to cost $66 million. The company cited the local lawsuit as a factor in their decision to cancel.
