Today in Biofuels Opinion: “Brazil has been using higher blends of ethanol in U.S. made autos for years.”

Jeff Broin, CEO of POET, on a new report from the Department of Energy that shows reduced emissions from use of higher base blends of ethanol than E10 : “This report underscores that increasing our use of ethanol can expand America’s energy independence today with no change in car performance or maintenance. This comes as no surprise, since Brazil has been using higher blends of ethanol in U.S. made autos for years. By increasing the base blend to 20 percent, we could avoid importing an additional 15.5 billion gallons of foreign oil, keeping our dollars here at home.”

Bill Haywood, former Sr VP of Refining for Tesoro and newly appointed CEO Chief Executive Officer of LS9: “I can’t think of a more exciting opportunity than joining LS9 as we prepare to move this important technology to commercial production and become the first advanced biofuels company to reach the market. I look forward to merging knowledge of the traditional transportation fuels business with synthetic biology to help bring LS9’s renewable fuels and chemicals into the pipeline and to the consumer.”
