In Spain, researchers at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) have developed a new use of hydrogen as a new fuel. Writing in Science magazine, the research team reported that they had designed a super-lattice material with a much higher ion conductivity, which is a critical path problem in fuel cell technology. The researchers developed a multilayered ion conductive material using layers of Yttria-stabilized zirconia and strontium titanate, that creates ionic flow without the 800 degree celsius temperatures required by previous technologies.
