In Malaysia, the Plantation Industries and Commodities Ministry said that it will introduce and push for a biodiesel mandate for public transportation. The ministry said that 500,000 tonnes of B5 biodiesel could be used in the sector, which would help reduce palm oil overstocking of 1.9 million tonnes. The ministry aims to reduce reserve stocks to 1.5 million tonnes. The Commodities minister said that other industries could be included in a mandate in the future.
