In Scotland, the government announced a plan to increase the use of biofuels in transportation from less than 1 percent to 10 percent by 2020. The proposal forms part of an overall Scottish Climate Change plan for an 80 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The government said that the proposal, which would utilize sunflower oil from Europe and palm oil imported from Asia or the Americas, may require new vehicle standards to ensure compatibility where blends of higher than B10 are employed.
