Today in Biofuels Opinion: “The infrastructure for E-85 needs to expand now.”

Beth Lowery, GM vice president of environment, energy and safety policy: “The infrastructure for E-85 needs to expand now if the nation is to be ready for the significant growth in ethanol coming from new cellulosic sources. We need a range of alternatives to offset growing oil demand in this country and globally.”

Bill Boyne of the (Rochester, MN) Post-Bulletin: “The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization has released a report stating that the worldwide investments in producing ethanol from corn and other food crops has contributed to the raising of food prices and to an increase in hunger in poorer countries…When you consider the energy required for making ethanol — including the oil and gasoline for farm equipment used in planting and harvesting the corn — there is no significant gain.”
