In Vietnam, the national government said that it would complete five new biodiesel and ethanol plants by 2010 to meet a target of 0.4 percent on annual fuel consumption. Officials said that the country would produce a total of 26 Mgy of ethanol and 13 Mgy of biodiesel, which would be distributed as E5 ethanol and B5 biodiesel. The country has a set a target of replacing 1 percent of the nation’s gasoline with cassava and sugarcane based ethanol. Petrovietnam is constructing a 22 Mgy facility in Phu Tho for a reported project cost of $85 million.
