Canada’s Northern Ethanol cancels Barrie project; proceeding with 108 Mgy Sarnia plant
In Canada, Northern Ethanol stated that local opposition in Ontario to its plans for two 108 Mgy ethanol plants in Sarnia and Barrie have resulted in shelving of the Barrie project. But the company confirmed that groundbreaking in spring for the Sarnia plant will go forward as previously scheduled. The company said that the issue in Barrie was a competing plan to establish a luxury boutique hotel near the planned site. The original project cost for Sarnia was estimated at $210 million before high-end pollution control equipment was added.
