In Colombia, state oil company Ecopetrol announced an 87 Mgy sugarcane ethanol project in Meta province. The plant, which will cost a projected $140 million to construct, will include more than 23,000 acres of sugar cane production in the country’s eastern plains. Ecopetrol will own an 80 percent stake in the project, while Bioenergy will own the remainder. The announcement marks the return of Ecopetrol to the ethanol production business.
