In Florida, a pilot stage cellulosic ethanol plant has been dedicated at the UF Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences, which will use genetically modified bacteria to make ethanol from crop residues and woods. Cellulosic ethanol pioneer Lonnie Ingram, microbiologist and director of the Florida Center for Renewable Chemicals and Fuels, is the prime mover behind the project.
