Ethanol responsible for 15 percent of Iowa’s greenhouse gas emissions

In Iowa, the Des Moines Register has reported that 15 percent of Iowa’s industrial greenhouse gas emissions come from ethanol plants, or 7.6 million metric tons out of 52 million for the state as a whole. The Department of Natural Resources concluded that the majority of emissions came from the fermentation process rather than burning of coal or natural gas at the plants.
