Today in Biofuels Opinion: “In Africa, the biofuel frenzy is the newest form of colonialism.”
Meredith Niles in Gristmill: “Biofuel production in Mozambique is not a Congressional mandate or an attempt to wean a country off of its massive oil dependence. In Africa, the biofuel frenzy is the newest form of colonialism, as corporations throughout the world fight for a stake in the fertile soils of an impoverished continent. With mining resources, precious jewels, and oil reserves drying up throughout Africa, many corporations are keenly positioning themselves to overtake huge quantities of land and water for biofuel production in developing countries.”
Clyde Novitz in OpedNews.com: “[Heather Zichal, Policy Director for Energy, Environment and Agriculture for the Obama campaign] came across like the Obama message on ethanol is that he wants the farm vote so badly that he’s willing to bend over backwards as far as he has too in order to get it no matter what it means to the rest of the country. And I can hardly blame him with his being Black. Even though he supports ethanol and McCain doesn’t, the corn belt vote still goes to McCain. Their differences over ethanol are however slowly winning corn farmers over to being willing to vote for an African American.”
