Eight developing nations threaten WTO action against EU over biofuels policy

Ambassadors from eight nations in South America, Africa and Asia have signed a letter threatening a World Trade Organization complaint against the European Union for barriers against the importation of biofuels. The draft letter, as reported by Reuters, calls for the EU to avoid dictating to developing nations where they can grow biofuels that qualify for import into the EU. Previously, Brazil has threatened WTO action against the US over ethanol tariffs, but in this case the proposed legislation from the EU would attempt to take into account land-use changes that result from expansion of national energy crop cultivation. and the resultant change in carbon emissions.
