Michael Pollan inks letter to “Farmer in Chief” proposing revived Victory Garden movement ; Minnie Mouse, Pluto in WWII-era glycerine-saving cartoon

From the “All That’s Old is New Again Department” that previously brought you videos of the Henry Ford Hempmobile from the 1940s: An open letter from essayist Michael Pollan to President Obama, published in the New York Times, reviewing agricultural policy and called for a revival of the Victory Gardens movement from the World War Two era.

Meanwhile, here’s a link to a World War II-era cartoon starring Minnie Mouse and Pluto, in which homemakers were urged to save kitchen grease that could be recycled to capture glycerine for shell production and medicines. Glycerine is a byproduct from biodiesel production.
