POET, Green Plains, Hawkeye, others form Growth Energy ethanol trade organization; call for E20 ethanol blending
In Washington, six ethanol producers have banded together to form Growth Energy, an ethanol trade organization, and immediately called on the government to increase the ethanol blending rate to 15 or 20 percent, up from the current “blend wall” of 10 percent.
POET CEO Jeff Broin told Reuters that he sees “tremendous alignment” between the goals of the incoming Obama administration and the trade group. POET, ICM, Western Plains Energy, Amazing Energy, Hawkeye Renewables and Green Plains Renewable Energy are the six founding members of the group. Growth Energy said in a statement that the group was created because the founders believe in the emissions, jobs, sustainable agriculture and energy independence potential of ethanol.
