In Florida, financial arrangements for the sale of a 185,000 acre US Sugar cane plantation to the State of Florida were revised. Under the new terms, Florida will pay $1.35 billion for the land, which it will dedicate towards Everglades restoration, but US Sugar will remain owner and operator of a Clewiston-based sugar mill, citrus processor and rail operations that employ 1700 people. Coskata has been negotiating with the parties to locate a commercial-scale plant in Clewiston, using agricultural waste from the US Sugar operations as feedstock.
