Obama administration may opt for flex-fuel enabled hybrids, says EV World

In Washington, a proposed Obama administration measure is that 50 percent of autos purchased by the federal government by 2012 be plug-in hybrids or all-electric vehicles. EV Worlds points out that, in the case of plug-in hybrids, that the gasoline engine installed in plug-ins could be a flex-fuel engine, either a flex-fuel version of the 100 bhp 1-4 that will feature in the Chevy Volt, or an engine delivering up to 180 bhp on E85 or 150 bhp on gasoline. The Volt is scheduled to be available in 2010 with a range of 40 miles on pure electricity.
