Missouri courts clear way for 100 Mgy Gulfstream Bioflex corn ethanol plant
In Missouri, the state Court of Appeals upheld a Boone County ruling that had previously cleared the way for the $180 million 100 Mgy Gulfstream Bioflex Energy corn ethanol plant. The controversial plant in Rogersville received its air permit earlier this year from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources. The project was delayed by a local resident lawsuit alleging that the project would damage the quality of local groundwater. The lower courts ruled in the company’s favor in May 2007. Also in May, Gulfstream Bioflex Energy canceled its plan to build a corn ethanol plant in Monroe City. Monroe County Administrator Jim Burns said at the time that high feedstock prices were the cause of the cancellation.
