Alberta announces provincial biofuels mandate, E5 and B2 in 2010

In Canada, the province of Alberta announced a provincial Renewable Fuel Standard with E5 ethanol blending and B2 biodiesel blends mandated for 2010. The Canadian Renewable Fuels Association said that the national renewable fuel standard, overall, will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 4.2 million tonnes, or the equivalent of taking a million cars off the road. In addition to the federal mandate, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario and British Columbia also have biofuels mandates in place.
