In Washington, President-elect Barack Obama is expected to announce today that former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack will be appointed as Secretary of Agriculture, and Colorado Senator Ken Salazar will be appointed Secretary of the Interior. The National Farmers Union issued a statement that Vilsack is a “great choice”, although Yahoo News noted critics who claim Vilsack is too close to agricultural technology companies and is not a strong supporter of organic or sustainable farming.
