California approves Scoping Plan for emissions reductions, including low-carbon fuel standard
In California, the Air Resources Board approved the state’s Scoping Plan to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 2020 back to 1990 levels. The Scoping Plan was a key deliverable under AB 32, the 2006 Global Warming Solutions Act.
The plan calls for a balanced mix of emissions reducing measures including energy efficiency programs, clean cars standards; increases in the amount of renewable energy used by the state for power; and a low-carbon fuel standard.
The plan also recommends expansion of the California Solar Initiative, and regulations to reduce truck and port-side ship emissions. The Air Resources Board will now move to develop strategies to implement the plan commencing in 2012. The plan can be viewed here.
