In Michigan, Ford announced that its petrol-injection and turbocharging EcoBoost technology will be available in 2009 in the Lincoln MKS sedan and Ford Flex, but the company would not confirm a timeline for introduction of its ethanol-injection system. The ethanol-injection system blasts ethanol into the cylinder to cool the combustion chamber, and uses the lower temperatures and ethanol’s higher octane rating to achieve fuel efficiency. The ethanol-injection system is reported to create up to 15 percent higher fuel efficiency compared to conventional fuel systems.
