Netherlands, EU, Flanders invest $29 million in Bio Base Europe training and next-gen biofuels pilot plant
The EU, the Netherlands national government and regional authorities in Flanders have jointly granted $29 million to fund Bio Base Europe, which will build R&D and training facilities for bio-based sustainable living projects.
The project will include an $18 million second-generation biofuel pilot plant that will reduce the difficulties of expanding lab results to production scale. The pilot plant will support research in wheat straw, corn cobs, wood chips, Jatropha and algae oils. The plant will be located near Ghent, Belgium. The remaining $11 million will be allocated to an open education-style training center Terneuzen, The Netherlands supporting education, entrepreneurship, networking and communications.
