EPA establishes $7 million Methane to Markets partnership grant program for capture-and-use projects
In Washington, the EPA has established a $7 million grant program to support the capture and re-use of methane from oil and gas systems, coal mining, landfills, and animal waste management. The EPA is requesting proposals from governments, universities or non-profits in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Ecuador, India, Kazakhstan, Republic of Korea, Mexico, Mongolia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Thailand, Ukraine, and Vietnam.
The proposals are expected to focus on technology transfers and demonstrations, feasibility studies, training and capacity building, information clearinghouses, and improved methane emissions estimates. The goal of the Methane to Markets partnership is reduction of methane emissions by 50 million metric tons of carbon equivalent annually – comparable to planting 55 million acres of trees.
