US corn champions harvest 368 bushels per acre; US average for 2008 is 153.8 bushel yield despite weather

 

cornThe 2008 National Corn Yield Contest yielded new US records for corn productivity. The 2008 season national average corn yield was 153.8 bushels per acre, according to the USDA. Winners in the annual contest sponsored by the National Corn Growers Association recoded yields from 284 bushels per acre up to 368 Bpa. The 24 national winners averaged 310 bushels per acre according to the NGCA. Overall, the USDA estimates US corn productivity at 153.8 bushes per acre, despite concerns about a failed harvest in the spring due to weather conditions.
