11 eastern US states to issue regional low-carbon fuel standard

In Pennsylvania, Governor Ed Rendell announced that Pennsylvania would join a coalition of 10 other eastern states in issuing a low carbon fuel standard. Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont are other other states in the group, which already participate in the regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative. California announced a low-carbon fuel standard in 2007, prompting Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick to propose a regional coalition to establish a standard for the entire Northeast.
