In Angola, Biocom set to open a 10,000 acre sugarcane plantation near the Capanda hydroelectric dam. Biocom is a partnership between Brazil’s Odebrecht, Angola’s Damer, and Sonangol, the Angolan state oil company. The company projects that it will produce 250,000 tonnes of sugar cane, 8 Mgy of ethanol, and 160 GW of energy from a bioenergy plant that will open in 2012.
