In Germany, Bioenergy Systems has developed a solid particle gasifier that converts wood shavings, miscanthus, sludge, manure, grain and other solid waste into syngas at temperatures up to 1200 degrees C, producing heat and power. The company’s second installation of its gasifier is in testing that the company’s facility in Thuringia. The gasifiers received the 2008 prize from the Society for the Promotion of Renewable Energy, and the Thuringia government has made a $500,000 grant in support of the new technology.
