In Oregon, technical problems have led to a temporary shutdown of the 113 Mgy Cascade Grain corn ethanol plant in Claskanie. The $200 million plant opened in June at the Port Westward Energy Park, and also produces 350,000 tons of distillers grains as well as bottled CO2 for the carbonated beverage industry. Contamination problems with high sulfate levels were reported by an independent lab, prompting the shutdown. The company also stopped deliveries of corn, which arrive from the Midwest on unit trains.
