Pennsylvania’s Luzerne County OKs ethanol rail facility to reduce truck traffic
In Pennsylvania, Luzerne County green-lighted an rail facility in Dupont that will ship ethanol to a terminal facility in Pittston Township. Scranton-Altoona Terminals proposed the facility as an alternative to shipping ethanol via truck, reducing traffic as well as trip distance. The company received approval from county planners on condition that it obtains conservation district and utility company approval for the project and posts $527,214 to secure its guarantee of performance.
The county said it will increase the tax base, jobs and reduce traffic. Conservation approval is contingent on submitting National Poisoning Data System and Erosion and Sediment Control plans. A pipeline plan was previously discarded.
