Royal Cosun, Avantium partner for advanced biofuels, bioplastics from organic waste streams
In the Netherlands, Royal Cosun and Avantium announced a partnership to develop a new generation of bioplastics and biofuels from selected organic waste streams. Under the partnership agreement, Cosun will select and purify agricultural waste feedstocks that do not compete with the food chain, while Avantium will continue development of its Furanics technology to process the feedstocks into low-cost bioplastics and high-density biofuels.
Cosun has been developing materials from agricultural waste, such as Carboxy Methyl Inulin, used as a water treatment additive. Avantium said that the new focus on non-food feedstocks will give it a market edge among other manufacturers of biofuels and bioplastics.
