Costa Rica readies for national E7 ethanol mandate

In Costa Rica, the national government indicated that they will move to an E7 ethanol mandate , following the completion of a pilot project at the Barranca Depot which is supplying E7 to 64 stations in Guanacaste and central Pacific sector.

Ethanol will be produced from cassava and sugarcane, while biodiesel will be produced for the Costa Rican market from castor bean, jatropha or palm, although the ministry of environment and energy said it does not expect to have biodiesel produced commercially in Costa Rica due to the high production cost.
