Algae progress in Mass., AZ profiled as National Algae Association concludes solutions-oriented conference
The progress of algae as a biofuel is reviewed this week in articles in Massachusetts and Arizona, while the National Algae Association meeting concluded after a series of workshops in which oil extraction and harvesting technologies were among the showcased solutions.
In MassHighTech, layoffs at algae pioneer GreenFuel were an offset to plans for the company’s $92 million bioreactor in Spain, while Bodega Algae focuses on new light sources for algae production. Mass-based Codon Devices has signed a partnership with Algenol, plus the University of New Haven and New Hampshire have launched new research efforts.
Meanwhile, the Eastern Valley Tribune profiles the Laboratory for Algae Research and Biotechnology, whose technologies were recognized among TIME’s top 20 inventions of the year.
